Ten Speed Strategies

  1. Decide to move faster. Speed is, above all else, about your own firm decisions - to refuse to tolerate slow, to operate with urgency.
  2. Take bigger steps. Getting to each million dollars can be faster, the bigger the average transaction size. One million $1.00 steps required. Only one hundred $10,000.00 steps. Or one thousands $1,000.00 steps. There are two paths to this kind of leverage. First, improving the quality of your customers, clients or patients by marketing to the affluent. Most business owners cast a very broad net and settle for whatever it produces - mackerel or lobsters. Better to fish in the "rich ponds", where you find clientele with very low price/fee resistance, and the ability and cheerful willingness to pay premium prices...top dollar…for exceptional service. I write about this monthly in my No B.S. Marketing To The Affluent Letter (www.DanKennedy.com) and provide a "crash course" in my newest book, No B.S. Guide To Marketing To The Affluent (released June 2008). Second, learn and utilize creative price strategies to increase transaction sizes as well as spuperior marketing strategies to increase value of each customer, via retention, ascension, and frequency. These issues are continually addressed in my No B.S. Marketing Letter, which is available for a free test drive at DanKennedy.com
  3. Plug leaks in your boat. If riddled with holes, it is speed impaired. I urge accessing THE SNOOPS REPORT provided here, in these Resource Archives; re-reading the book chapters it connects to; and contacting and using the resources recommended.
  4. Discover new opportunities and new ways of doing things. Every business and industry has its sacred cow beliefs that limit the speed at which its participants can grow and prosper. If you cling to past and present traditions, practices and beliefs...if you insist ‘your business can’t, because...’ ...if refuse, reject and fail to pursue breakthrough ideas from outside your own business, then you are doomed to operating within your current speed limits. As a powerful ‘mind enema', I urge taking a look at THE PHENOMENON (reference: Chapter 45). You can see a FREE 30-minute TV show about The Phenomenon at www.InNext12Months.com. Afterward, you can obtain The Phenomenon DVD package featuring interviews with a diverse group of amazing entrepreneurs and a special seminar of mine. But, at minimum, watch the show.
  5. Associate with people who understand, embrace and succeed with speed. (Reference: Chapter 47) If you hang out with and share ideas with slow folks, you'll be slow. You need association with businesspeople who are committed to speed. One place to look is at Glazer-Kennedy Insider's Circle local Chapters, operated by our trained and certified Independent Business Advisors. A Directory can be found at DanKennedy.com, and free guest passes are available from the Advisor in your area.
  6. Embrace chaos. I say: success is cooked up in a messy kitchen. Doubly true for fast success. One of the most important principles of big, fast success taught in great depth in my Renegade Millionaire System (www.RenegadeMillionaire.com) is doing things simultaneously, not sequentially. We are conditioned from childhood on to think in terms of ladders and steps, from 1st to 2nd to 3rd grade. Here's how to stay poor: think: I'll first get a good job THEN start saving a little money THEN, when there's enough saved to make it worthwhile, start INVESTING, etc. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, in case you didn't know it, is quite wealthy in his own right and owns a lot of California commercial property began investing in real estate while he was sleeping on a friend's couch, struggling to create a career as a bodybuilder and a business as a publisher, before his acting career. He was, in essence, a homeless man buying investment properties. This anecdote reveals two powerful truths about Renegade Millionaires: one, they move forward on multiple initiatives BEFORE THEY ARE READY…and two, they tackle multiple objectives, projects and activities simultaneously, not sequentially. This tends to be disturbing to people around them more limited in thought and ambition, and it tends to create chaos. You want to embrace and manage chaos, not stifle it.
  7. Get good help. INFUSION SOFTWARE (reference Chapter 31) is a great example of breakthrough-quality good help. This company and its systems have made a major contribution to thousands of my clients and Members, by helping them efficiently organize and use all their data and automate complex, multi-media, multi-step marketing campaigns otherwise impossible...providing competitive edge and speed, by supporting the improved customer value cited above, in #2. Every expert and resource I have recommended in this book can, in their own way, help you achieve greater speed with less stress. To move faster, you need new and better tools. Laziness in looking for them or penury in investing in them is a strict speed limit.
  8. Manage your time - and access to you - ruthlessly. Speed requires focus, concentration, making every minute count, preventing waste…placing yourself in a 'maximum productivity environment'…and refusing to permit its disruption. In my No B.S. Time Management FOR ENTREPRENEURS book I describe the different kinds of 'Time Vampires' attempt sucking the lifeblood from you daily and I lay out a radical but highly effective plan for warding them off. I wrote the book in response to countless, constant questions about how I personally manage to get so much done at such a fast pace. I promise you, this is a must-read, life-altering book.
  9. Stop chasing success - ATTRACT it. Much has been written, said and hyped lately about the metaphysical 'law of attraction', as presented in 'The Secret.' And much of this is incomplete, simplistic and misleading. However, the basic premise is vitally important. Most people are conducting their business lives as cavemen: still going out every morning, club over shoulder, on a hunt, hoping to find something to kill and drag back to the cave for the evening's meal. Primitive and SLOW. Instead, there are strategic, specific 'wealth magnets' you can put in place that do attract opportunities, resources, people, money as well as customers, clients or patients at a much faster pace with much less effort. Setting up your own System-Of-Attraction involves changes in the way you think, but also a lot of very practical actions, including those in my first and foremost area of specialty: marketing. I provide a comprehensive discussion of both the thinking and the doing, in my book No B.S. Guide To Wealth ATTRACTION For Entrepreneurs.
  10. Systems, systems, systems! ALL wealth is derived from systems. McDonalds is able to function with thousands of restaurants run by pimply-faced, hormones raging, Attention Deficit Disordered teenagers thanks to its systems. It is impossible to achieve top speed without wrecks without superior business systems. Most businesses do have some operational systems, but few have marketing systems. In my book, No B.S. Guide To DIRECT Marketing For NON-Direct Marketing Businesses, I provide a clear, definitive set of standards for such a system, then illustrated by numerous real business examples from my clients.
